JythonMusic runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Download and Install
Download the latest release – JEM 4.9 (Build 3, 07-Nov-2024, 288MB) – see what’s new.
Windows
- Download JythonMusic.
- Unzip JythonMusic to Documents.
- Double-click JEM.exe to run.
- (Optional) Right-click JEM.exe, and select “Create Shortcut”. Move this shortcut to your Desktop for easy access.
Mac
- Download and open the JythonMusic installer.
- Drag JEM to your Desktop. (You may move JEM to Applications after this, if desired)
- Drag JythonMusic Examples to your Documents.
- From your Desktop/Applications folder, double-click JEM to run.
- (Optional) While JEM is running, control-click the JEM icon on the taskbar. Select “Options” and “Keep in Dock” for easy access.
- NOTE: Some versions of MacOS might flag the application as damaged or malware the first time you open it. If so, select “Cancel” (not Move to Trash!), and open your System Settings app. In “Privacy & Security”, scroll down until you see a Security alert for JEM. Select “Allow” and open JEM again.
Alternatively, you can run the following command in a Terminal window to manually unlock JythonMusic (after you moved it to the Applications folder):
sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/JEM.app/
Linux
Download – unzip and run the JEM executable.

In addition to seeing them online, you can also download the examples, organized in folders – by chapter.
